Kick off meeting of two UfM Gas Platform working groups on common gas infrastructure, and on cooperation among TSOs in the Euro-Med.
In line with the approved work programme below, activities of the UfM Gas Platform address some gas infrastructure issues impacting gas developments in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Task 2.4: An investigation of the potential and benefits of common Euro-Mediterranean gas infrastructures, which would best serve the future supply-demand balance in region and beyond. This exercise will also take into account infrastructure cost, the socio-economic benefits of the projects in terms of market integration, competition, security of supply and sustainability. It will include an analysis of how to maximise the potential of the Eastern Mediterranean and Southern Gas Corridors.
Task 2.5: An advisory assessment whether and how TSOs in the region could beneficially cooperate in long term planning of system development with network investments and monitoring the developments of transmission network capacities. This investigation would aim capacity building needs of TSO’s to increase capability of cooperation between them.
In order to discuss and fix the content of these tasks, define the activities, and also have a brainstorming on gas infrastructures related matters, the UfM Gas Platform Secretariat is launching two dedicated Working Groups. The kick-off meeting of the Working Groups took place on 14 June 2019 in Paris, France, on the occasion of the UfM Gas Platform Conference held on 13 June 2019.
The meeting gathered around 20 delegates from all backgrounds, ministries, institutions and industry, from both shores of the Mediterranean. They all contributed to vibrant discussions (under the Chatham House Rule) and participated to the success of the event. The plan is to have final draft reports to be circulated to WG Members for review by the end of 2019.
